Year 3 (2020-21)

Welcome to Year 3!

We are very excited to have everybody back in school at last. This term our history topic is ‘Changes from the Stone Age to the Iron Age’ so we will be looking at cave art and hunter gatherer kits as well as historical sites such as Skara Brae and Stonehenge. This links well to our Science work on rocks and fossils. Our geography lessons will cover climate zones around the world.

Our active read story is ‘The Worst Witch’ by Jill Murphy, so we will be reading this story every day. In English lessons we will be reading other stories such as ‘The first drawing’ by Mordicai Gerstein, ‘Stone Age Boy’ by Satoshi Kitamura and ‘Leon and the place between’ by Angela McAllister.

Maths lessons will include place value with numbers up to 1000 to extend our learning from Year 2. We will be adding and subtracting 2 digit and 3 digit numbers using formal methods.
